Substitution Saturday - Brownies

Today is National Brownie Day. Do you want to celebrate, but are trying to watch your sugar? Since brownies are high in sugar, fat and calories, I have a great recipe substitute brownies, which are high in sugar, fat and calories. Today we’re making Black Bean Brownies. These brownies are flourless, high in protein and fiber, low in sugar depending on the ingredients and just as delicious.

Follow my easy step by step guide below to make these delicious treats.

  

Black Bean Brownies

INGREDIENTS:

-1 can black beans, rinsed and drained

-2 scoops chocolate whey protein powder

-1/2 cup cocoa powder

-3/4 cup sugar / sugar substitute

-3 egg whites (2 oz)

-1 tbsp coconut oil

-1 tsp baking powder

-1 tsp vanilla extract

-1/2 tsp salt

-2 tbsp peanut butter (optional)

STEP 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

STEP 2

Mix dry ingredients (whey, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, salt)

STEP 3

Mix wet ingredients (egg whites, vanilla extract and coconut oil)

Rinse and drain black beans

Add wet ingredients into black beans and puree into paste (food processor or blender)

STEP 6

Combine puree and dry ingredients. Don’t worry, the batter is very thick.

STEP 7

Bake in a greased 8x8 dish for 15-18 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
